Company History PDF Print

The history of WireTech Inc. actually begins over thirty five years ago as the owners of an aerospace fastener company created a small wire manufacturing facility in Commerce, Ca. to supply itself with heading wire.  It was quickly determined that there was a much larger need for their services and MGF Industries (what is now WireTech) became a mainstay as the leading supplier of Cold Heading Quality material to the Aerospace, Automotive and Commercial Fastener Industries.

During the early-1980’s the company began shipping truckload quantities of material to the Mid-west and soon after established a second manufacturing facility in Rockford, Illinois, a place recognized at the time as the fastener capital of the world.  Steady growth during the eighties and early nineties led to the need for additional capital equipment and the two manufacturing facilities of MGF soon began producing nearly 20 million pounds of heading wire per month. In 1990 a strategic acquisition of the assets of the Cherry Fastener Wire Processing Facility further increased small diameter wire capabilities.

The Commerce, Ca facility mainly catered to the aerospace industry and early on was a key manufacturer and supplier of titanium material in both coil and bar form.  Due to the volatility of the titanium market the product line was discontinued in the early 1990’s.  In order to maintain it’s diversity and ability to sustain market swings, the facility ventured into the Industrial Quality (Brite Basic) market. This proved to be a very advantageous move and the philosophy of using aerospace level processing and quality criteria for Brite Basic material shook up the industry.  It was most accurately described as “Cadillac Quality” throughout the industry.

During the early part of this century the fastener industry fell on hard times and it was most noticeable in the Midwest with the heavy automotive influence.  This caused the closure of the Rockford facility and the name change of the Commerce facility to WireTech, Inc.  Over the years many improvements have been made to the processing, technology and equipment but the most vital asset, The People, have remained the same with the average tenure exceeding twenty years and the longest term employee at 34 years.

It became very apparent that there was a need for a company in the Midwest such as WireTech that could provide short lead –times while providing superior quality wire and personalized customer service.  As a result, a distribution facility was established in Loves Park, Illinois in 2004 and customers immediately placed purchase orders and garnered the benefits of just-in-time deliveries from the custom designed stocking programs.   The acquisition of an existing wire processing facility in Elyria, Ohio in 2005 further expanded WireTech’s presence in the Midwest.  The Shaving (Peel and Polish) and Reverse Die Equipment along with the wire processing equipment enabled strategic servicing of a very important market.

Ample capacity and strategic manufacturing and distribution locations have WireTech well poised to be the Global Supplier of Choice with major relationships with customers in North America, including Mexico and Canada, as well as Europe and Asia.
